Request for Proposals Summer 2019

A Magical Journey Thru Stages, Inc. ("Stages") is accepting proposals from Directors to direct shows for our 2019 Summer Experience Theater Camps.  Qualified candidates are invited to submit proposals for our camps.  


STAGES is a 501(c)(3) non-profit theater company dedicated to creating fun high-quality youth theatre in our community. Talented youth from the Greater Rochester Area develop their talents to perform high-quality musicals and plays that delight audiences, support local charities, and foster personal and professional growth. All rehearsals and performances are held in the Stages Theater at the Auditorium Center, Third Floor, 875 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14605.  For more detailed information about Stages, check out our Website:





STAGES is seeking proposals from talented directors interested in directing a summer experience theater camp.  We have summer camps for 1st – 12th graders.  The SUMMER CAMPS have open registrations that are filled on a first come basis, with a casting night for filling the roles.  


Successful director candidates develop rapport with talented students, their parents, the Stages' staff and volunteers.  It is a team effort to create a memorable show using collaboration, skill, talent and commitment.  A background in acting, music, or dance is required with special interest in candidates with experience in education, and working with school-age kids.  Also desired:  positive attitude, excellent communication skills, theater experience, highest moral standards, excellent organizational skills, and a collaborative approach to theater.

In your proposal to direct a theater camp, please include the following information:


  • Contact information –  Name, e-mail and phone number.


  • Qualifications of director, with a resume if you have not worked at Stages  (including two references involving theater experience).  Set forth details of experience working with youth, including age groups and dates of experience.


  • Camps you are interested in directing by the Camp # or Dates.    


  • Suggested Title(s) of show selections for our summer camps.  NOTE: Should be MTI Jr. or similar type of shortened show. The half day camp should be an MTI Kids or similar show of about 45 minutes.  We do not do shows recently performed at Stages. See Website link


  • Size of cast for each show selection - include approximate number of leads, supporting and ensemble.  (Suggested cast size approx. 30-40)


  • Submissions accepted for more than one camp.  If proposing more than one show for a camp or show, please number them in order of preference.


  • You may also list other proposed artistic team members, if any – choreographer, musical director, stage manager or assistant director.    



A Stages Production Manager is in charge of the overall camp and will work closely with the Director and artistic team on all aspects of the show. Administrative issues and communication with parents are handled through Stages, with a regular newsletter to the cast families.  We have a costume manager, technical director, and arrange for tech designers and a costumer. Our theater is equipped with lighting, sound, mics, dressing rooms, and some costumes and props. Together with the director, we decide on the artistic staff and arrange for qualified tech designers.  Rehearsals and camps take place at the theater. There are many people who work on our shows to make them a success.
